Insurance update and kudos to TLW

After American Family Insurance told us that they would no longer cover us because of our arthritic Rottweiler who can barely get up off the floor, I sent some emails to local groups breed groups for suggestions of insurance companies to contact. Between emails and internet research, one company comes up every time: State Farm Insurance Company. I think they will be the first to receive a call from us.

The groups also suggested getting a Canine Good Citizen certificate from the AKC for Ethel. Which sounds good. Except that this old dog refuses to learn new tricks. So that probably won't be an option, unless it is our only option. Another suggestion was to get letters from neighbors that talk about Ethel in a flattering manner. Just a heads up to those neighbors who read Four Square No. 266.

In pulling papers together for our insurance search, I have to say how glad I am that the lovely wife is the anal retentive accountant that she is. People will point out that she and I are similar in many respects. Some have said we could even be brother-and-sister based on attitude and appearance, which is meant as a compliment but is kinda icky when you think about it. But where she and I differ is in terms of organizational skills. She has a folder for every piece of paperwork and a label on every storage box. She is on top of it.

She, also, had the drive and gumption to request a free copy of the report used by insurance companies. It lists what few claims we have made on our home and car owners insurance policies, complete with dates and values. That will be really handy.

One thing I want to point out for everyone's benefit: if you elect to have an emergency package added to your car insurance, know that any "free" tow you may request will show up on the report as a claim. Before we had AAA, we had towing coverage on our insurance. The Unlucky Unitas had to be towed twice. It shows up as claims on our insurance policies. What a load of crap. I'm glad we dropped that from our policy.
